FALLOUT 3… when nuke gone wrong

let see… I played Fallout 1, nice game. I played Fallout 2, addictive game. I PLAYED Fallout 3, and I say “it’s Oblivion with guns and power armor”. Well the guys from nomutansallowed forum already have the bad feeling about the third series of the game being developed by Bethesda (the other two were developed by interplay). But I think to myself back then “well… just give Bethesda a chance”, and now I feel pretty dissapointed.

I’m sure other people who don’t play the last two series will find the game kind of PERFECT, and it’s quite reasonable… For the game, if it’s not a Fallout series would be a great one.

Lets see the positive side of Fallout 3 shall we?

- Nice Graphic (especially the environment, the characters look fine although they have funny movement)

- Nice way to combining action and turn-based game (the vats system OK)

- Wiiideee world to explore (yes it’s gigantic)

- The A.I fine, quite challenging

- Have more option “how to play” than the Elder’s Scroll series

- The feeling of post-nuclear world is good developed

well that’s quite a lot nice things in Fallout 3, but for me it has more mistakes, such as :

- Okay, you have a gigantic world, lots of dungeons, but for what? Fallout 3 indeed has tons of dungeons, yep TONS of USELESS dungeons, you just came in, killed everything that moved, and came out thinking “what the hell did I do that for? got no idea”  just for wasting ammo i guess?

- The level is limited to 20, well that SUCKS, why? because it forced player to put their intelligence stat to 10 (because every time you gained a level, you’ll get a number of skill points to distributed, which is determined by your INT, the less your INT stat, then the useless your char will be).

- unarmed and melee weapon and basically useless, why? imagine you are running with a knife to a rocket launcer equiped-super mutant, it’s pretty messy since it’s real time.

-your charisma stat is basically useless, just boost your speech skill and the NPC won’t know or feel the difference.

- it’s the most buggiest game in 2008, try it if you don’t believe me.

- the weapons and enemies variety is way down compare to Fallout 2.

- the A.I behavior (such as walking, sleeping, waking up) pretty much the same like Oblivion.

- you can only have one companion… well in Fallout 2 I can have 5! I can have a band full of gun-blazing.

- you can’t kill children in Fallout 3 (well… it’s unfair right?)

- it’s seems impossible to win the game without mastering one or more combat skills. In Fallout 2 I can win the game with my char’s intelligence, charisma, or items. That’s made Fallout 2 not just a kill and loot game.

- You can’t continue to play the game anymore after finishing the main quest

- The main quest is to short… and it’s just so clear, not very challenging, in other Fallout series to finish the main quest is pretty hard, the games did not give us clear directions to finish it, it’s up to us to find our way and without pointers.

- and many more dissapointment from me,,

so that’s it, the nuke blown, just hope Bethesda will make a better Fallout, or even better Interplay buy the license from Bethesda, although it’s pretty impossible…

War… War never changes
